Sucrochem is developing sugar cane wax and other bio-based chemicals from agricultural by-products in the heart of South Africa’s sugar cane territory, Kwazulu-Natal. Chemical quality and consistency are the forefront of our work, and as such, our aim is to deliver the finest quality of novel and existing green chemicals to our customers for use in the cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and other high- grade industries. Vision: Creating a greener tomorrow through the innovative utilisation of sugar cane. Mission: Sucrochem focuses on the promotion of sugar cane-derived products from milling streams. For this purpose, it is engaged in a number of activities, ranging from consultation and market analysis to the transfer of Research and Development projects to commercialised solutions. It aims to produce sugar cane-based products on plot scale for testing purposes. The selected products are mainly resulting from research conducted at the SMRI/NRF SARChI Research Chair in Sugar Cane Biorefining at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa, but may include also custom synthesis in the future. Sucrochem intends to act as the missing link between the sugar producing industry, and chemical and materials converting or distributing entities.
